Inflating a rugby ball is a straightforward process. Here are the steps:

#1. Locate the Valve: The valve is usually found in one of the seams of the rugby ball. It’s a small, round hole that air can be pumped into.

#2. Moisten the Needle: Before inserting the needle into the valve, it’s a good idea to moisten it slightly. This can be done with a bit of spit or with some water. This helps to protect the valve and makes it easier to insert the needle.

#3. Insert the Needle: Carefully insert the moistened needle into the valve. It should go in smoothly and without resistance.

#4. Pump Air into the Ball: Using a hand pump or an electric pump, begin to inflate the ball. Be sure to pump slowly and steadily to avoid over-inflation.

#5. Check the Pressure: Rugby balls should be inflated to a pressure of about 9.5 to 10 psi. Most pumps have a built-in pressure gauge that you can use to check this. If you don’t have a pressure gauge, you can usually tell if a ball is properly inflated by giving it a squeeze. It should feel firm, but not hard.

#6.Remove the Needle: Once the ball is properly inflated, carefully remove the needle from the valve. Be sure to do this slowly to avoid damaging the valve.

#7.Store the Ball Properly: After inflation, store the ball in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to maintain its shape and prolong its lifespan.
