Who Was Doddie Weir?

A larger-than-life presence both on and off the pitch, Doddie Weir was a true icon of rugby. Earning 61 caps for Scotland and representing the British & Irish Lions on their victorious 1997 tour of South Africa, Doddie’s playing career saw him achieve success with Melrose and Newcastle Falcons.

In June 2017, Doddie revealed his MND diagnosis, a progressive neurological disease that weakens the body’s nerve cells. Refusing to be defined by his illness, he turned his battle into a mission to support MND patients and fund critical research. In November 2017, he established the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation, which continues his legacy today.
